[18:3]  1 tn Heb “Like me, like you; and like your people, my people; and with you in battle.”

[18:5]  2 tn Heb “Should we go against Ramoth Gilead for war or should I refrain?”

[18:5]  3 tn Though Jehoshaphat had requested an oracle from “the Lord” (יְהוָה, yÿhvah, “Yahweh”), the Israelite prophets stop short of actually using this name and substitute the title הָאֱלֹהִים (haelohim, “the God”). This ambiguity may explain in part Jehoshaphat’s hesitancy and caution (vv. 7-8). He seems to doubt that the 400 are genuine prophets of the Lord.

[18:9]  4 tn Heb “at,” which in this case probably means “near.”

[14:47]  5 tn Heb “his,” which could refer to Israel or to Saul.

[14:47]  6 tc The translation follows the LXX (“he was delivered”), rather than the MT, which reads, “he acted wickedly.”

[8:3]  7 tn Heb “walk in” (also in v. 5).

[8:3]  8 tn Heb “and they turned aside after unjust gain and took bribes and perverted justice.”

[11:23]  9 tn Grk “Antioch, who when.” The relative pronoun was omitted and a new sentence was begun in the translation at this point to improve the English style, due to the length of the sentence in Greek.

[11:23]  10 tn BDAG 883 s.v. προσμένω 1.a.β has “remain true to the Lord” for προσμένειν (prosmenein) in this verse.

[11:23]  sn He…encouraged them all to remain true to the Lord. The call to faithfulness is frequent in Acts (2:40; 14:22; 15:32; 16:39; 20:1-2).

[11:23]  11 tn Grk “with purpose of heart”; BDAG 869 s.v. πρόθεσις 2.a translates this phrase “purpose of heart, i.e. devotion” here.

[11:24]  12 tn Grk “a significant crowd.”
