Ulangan 28:30

28:30 You will be engaged to a woman and another man will rape ¹  her. You will build a house but not live in it. You will plant a vineyard but not even begin to use it.

Ulangan 28:2

28:2 All these blessings will come to you in abundance ²  if you obey the Lord your God:

16:21 David came to Saul and stood before him. Saul liked him a great deal, ³  and he became his armor bearer. 16:22 Then Saul sent word to Jesse saying, “Let David be my servant, for I really like him.” ⁴ 

[28:30]  ¹ tc For MT reading שָׁגַל (shagal, “ravish; violate”), the Syriac, Targum, and Vulgate presume the less violent שָׁכַב (shakhav, “lie with”). The unexpected counterpart to betrothal here favors the originality of the MT.

[28:2]  ² tn Heb “come upon you and overtake you” (so NASB, NRSV); NIV “come upon you and accompany you.”

[16:21]  ³ tn Heb “he loved him.”

[16:22]  ⁴ tn Heb “Let David stand before me, for he has found favor in my eyes.”
