Yesaya 40:3

40:3 A voice cries out,

“In the wilderness clear a way for the Lord;

construct in the desert a road for our God.

Yesaya 45:22

45:22 Turn to me so you can be delivered, ¹ 

all you who live in the earth’s remote regions!

For I am God, and I have no peer.

Yesaya 57:14

57:14 He says, ² 

“Build it! Build it! Clear a way!

Remove all the obstacles out of the way of my people!”

Yesaya 56:11

56:11 The dogs have big appetites;

they are never full. ³ 

They are shepherds who have no understanding;

they all go their own way,

each one looking for monetary gain. ⁴

62:10 Come through! Come through the gates!

Prepare the way for the people!

Build it! Build the roadway!

[45:22]  ¹ tn The Niphal imperative with prefixed vav (ו) indicates purpose after the preceding imperative. The Niphal probably has a tolerative sense, “allow yourselves to be delivered, accept help.”

[57:14]  ² tn Since God is speaking throughout this context, perhaps we should emend the text to “and I say.” However, divine speech is introduced in v. 15.

[56:11]  ³ sn The phrase never full alludes to the greed of the leaders.

[56:11]  ⁴ tn Heb “for his gain from his end.”
