ATAROT [ensiklopedia]

(Ibrani `atarot, 'mahkota-mahkota').

1. Satu kota di sebelah timur Yordan di wilayah bani Ruben (Bil 32:3, 34), Khirbet 'Attarus modern. Satu kota bernama Atarot terdapat dalam Bit 32:35, tapi ini harus dihubungkan dengan kata berikutnya, dan hasilnya nama satu kota lain yg tak dikenal dengan nama Atarot-Sofan.

2. Satu kota di daerah Efraim, mungkin sama dengan Atarot-Adar, Yos 16:2, 5, 7; 18:13.

3. Atarot-Bet-Yoab yg disebut dalam 1 Taw 2:54 mungkin berarti 'orang-orang kepala dari keturunan Yoab', suatu gambaran tentang Betlehem dan Netofa, nama-nama yg mendahuluinya. TBI menganggap bahwa ketiganya, Betlehem, Netofa dan Atarot-Bet-Yoab, adalah keturunan Salma. RJW/NY WBS
