(Ibrani khawwot ya' ir, 'perkemahan Yair'). Mungkin terletak di daerah yg berbukit-bukit antara pegunungan Gilead dan S Yarmuk; kadang-kadang dimasukkan ke wilayah Argob sebelah utara sungai sebagai bagian dari Basan, yg sebelumnya adalah daerah kekuasaan Og (Ul 3:14; Yos 13:30). Daerah ini penuh perkemahan yg disebut `ayarim, Hak 10:4; bentuk jamak yg unik dari 'ir, 'kota', atau bentuk kecilnya saja (demikian juga Rashi, Commentary) senada dengan 'anak keledai'. Yair menaklukkan seluruh daerah itu, Ul 3:14; 1 Taw 2:23 dab; 'enam puluh kota' disebut oleh Yos 13:30; 1 Taw 2:23 mengacu pada wilayah Argob (bnd 1 Raj 4:13). Dalam Bil 32:41 kata ganti jamaknya tidak jelas, Bergman (JPOS 16, 1936, hlm 235 dst) menafsirkannya tanpa mengubah konsonannya, 'dusun-dusun Ham' di bagian utara Gilead (226213), bnd Kej 14:5. 1. Keturunan Manasye, yg selama perang penaklukan daerah sebelah timur Yordan di bawah pimpinan Musa, menguasai beberapa desa di perbatasan Basan dan Gilead (Bil 32:21) dan menyebutnya Hawot-Yair.
2. Seorang hakim yg menghakimi Israel selama 22 thn (Hak 10:3, 5). Ketiga puluh anaknya menduduki 30 desa di Gilead, dan nama Hawot-Yair dihubungkan dengan mereka.
3. Bapak Mordekhai (Est 2:5).
