41:42 Then Pharaoh took his signet ring from his own hand and put it on Joseph’s. He clothed him with fine linen ¹  clothes and put a gold chain around his neck.

41:2 seven fine-looking, fat cows were coming up out of the Nile, ²  and they grazed in the reeds.

2:8 “Note well, you still have to contend with Shimei son of Gera, the Benjaminite from Bahurim, ³  who tried to call down upon me a horrible judgment when I went to Mahanaim. ⁴  He came down and met me at the Jordan, and I solemnly promised ⁵  him by the Lord, ‘I will not strike you down ⁶  with the sword.’

¹ tn The Hebrew word שֵׁשׁ (shesh) is an Egyptian loanword that describes the fine linen robes that Egyptian royalty wore. The clothing signified Joseph’s rank.

² tn Heb “And look, he was standing by the Nile, and look, from the Nile were coming up seven cows, attractive of appearance and fat of flesh.” By the use of the particle הִנֵּה (hinneh, “look”), the narrator invites the audience to see the dream through Pharaoh’s eyes.

³ tn Heb “Look, with you is Shimei….”
