Roma 1:26

1:26 For this reason God gave them over to dishonorable passions. For their women exchanged the natural sexual relations for unnatural ones, ¹

1:28 And just as they did not see fit to acknowledge God, ²  God gave them over to a depraved mind, to do what should not be done. ³

81:13 If only my people would obey me! ⁴ 

If only Israel would keep my commands! ⁵ 

Efesus 4:19

4:19 Because they are callous, they have given themselves over to indecency for the practice of every kind of impurity with greediness. ⁶ 

¹ tn Grk “for their females exchanged the natural function for that which is contrary to nature.” The term χρῆσις (crhsi") has the force of “sexual relations” here (L&N 23.65).

² tn Grk “and just as they did not approve to have God in knowledge.”

³ tn Grk “the things that are improper.”

⁴ tn Heb “if only my people were listening to me.” The Hebrew particle לוּ (lu, “if not”) introduces a purely hypothetical or contrary to fact condition (see 2 Sam 18:12).

⁵ tn Heb “[and if only] Israel would walk in my ways.”

⁶ sn Greediness refers to an increasing desire for more and more. The point is that sinful passions and desires are never satisfied.
