Yesaya 10:25

10:25 For very soon my fury will subside, and my anger will be directed toward their destruction.”

Mazmur 59:6

59:6 They return in the evening;

they growl like a dog

and prowl around outside the city.

Yesaya 1:24

1:24 Therefore, the sovereign Lord who commands armies,

the powerful ruler of Israel, says this:

“Ah, I will seek vengeance against my adversaries,

I will take revenge against my enemies.

tc The Hebrew text has simply “fury,” but the pronominal element can be assumed on the basis of what immediately follows (see “my anger” in the clause). It is possible that the suffixed yod (י) has been accidentally dropped by virtual haplography. Note that a vav (ו) is prefixed to the form that immediately follows; yod and vav are very similar in later script phases.

tn Or “howl”; or “bark.”

tn Heb “go around.”

tn Heb “the master, the Lord who commands armies [traditionally, the Lord of hosts].” On the title “the Lord who commands armies,” see the note at v. 9.

tn Heb “the powerful [one] of Israel.”

tn Heb “console myself” (i.e., by getting revenge); NRSV “pour out my wrath on.”

sn The Lord here identifies with the oppressed and comes as their defender and vindicator.
