49:8 Judah, 1 your brothers will praise you.
Your hand will be on the neck of your enemies,
your father’s sons will bow down before you.
49:9 You are a lion’s cub, Judah,
from the prey, my son, you have gone up.
He crouches and lies down like a lion;
like a lioness – who will rouse him?
49:10 The scepter will not depart from Judah,
nor the ruler’s staff from between his feet, 2
until he comes to whom it belongs; 3
the nations will obey him. 4
49:11 Binding his foal to the vine,
and his colt to the choicest vine,
he will wash 5 his garments in wine,
his robes in the blood of grapes.
49:12 His eyes will be dark from wine,
and his teeth white from milk. 6
1:1 From Jude, 7 a slave 8 of Jesus Christ and brother of James, 9 to those who are called, wrapped in the love of 10 God the Father and kept for 11 Jesus Christ. 1:2 May mercy, peace, and love be lavished on you! 12
1:3 Dear friends, although I have been eager to write to you 13 about our common salvation, I now feel compelled 14 instead to write to encourage 15 you to contend earnestly 16 for the faith 17 that was once for all 18 entrusted to the saints. 19 1:4 For certain men 20 have secretly slipped in among you 21 – men who long ago 22 were marked out 23 for the condemnation I am about to describe 24 – ungodly men who have turned the grace of our God into a license for evil 25 and who deny our only Master 26 and Lord, 27 Jesus Christ.
1:5 Now I desire to remind you (even though you have been fully informed of these facts 28 once for all 29 ) that Jesus, 30 having saved the 31 people out of the land of Egypt, later 32 destroyed those who did not believe. 1:6 You also know that 33 the angels who did not keep within their proper domain 34 but abandoned their own place of residence, he has kept 35 in eternal chains 36 in utter 37 darkness, locked up 38 for the judgment of the great Day. 1:7 So also 39 Sodom and Gomorrah and the neighboring towns, 40 since they indulged in sexual immorality and pursued unnatural desire 41 in a way similar to 42 these angels, 43 are now displayed as an example by suffering the punishment of eternal fire.
78:68 He chose the tribe of Judah,
and Mount Zion, which he loves.
78:70 He chose David, his servant,
and took him from the sheepfolds.
5:2 (5:1) As for you, Bethlehem Ephrathah, 44
seemingly insignificant 45 among the clans of Judah –
from you a king will emerge who will rule over Israel on my behalf, 46
one whose origins 47 are in the distant past. 48
