18:12 Now while Gallio 3 was proconsul 4 of Achaia, 5 the Jews attacked Paul together 6 and brought him before the judgment seat, 7 18:13 saying, “This man is persuading 8 people to worship God in a way contrary to 9 the law!” 18:14 But just as Paul was about to speak, 10 Gallio said to the Jews, “If it were a matter of some crime or serious piece of villainy, 11 I would have been justified in accepting the complaint 12 of you Jews, 13 18:15 but since it concerns points of disagreement 14 about words and names and your own law, settle 15 it yourselves. I will not be 16 a judge of these things!” 18:16 Then he had them forced away 17 from the judgment seat. 18 18:17 So they all seized Sosthenes, the president of the synagogue, 19 and began to beat 20 him in front of the judgment seat. 21 Yet none of these things were of any concern 22 to Gallio.
18:18 Paul, after staying 23 many more days in Corinth, 24 said farewell to 25 the brothers and sailed away to Syria accompanied by 26 Priscilla and Aquila. 27 He 28 had his hair cut off 29 at Cenchrea 30 because he had made a vow. 31 18:19 When they reached Ephesus, 32 Paul 33 left Priscilla and Aquila 34 behind there, but he himself went 35 into the synagogue 36 and addressed 37 the Jews. 18:20 When they asked him to stay longer, he would not consent, 38 18:21 but said farewell to 39 them and added, 40 “I will come back 41 to you again if God wills.” 42 Then 43 he set sail from Ephesus, 18:22 and when he arrived 44 at Caesarea, 45 he went up and greeted 46 the church at Jerusalem 47 and then went down to Antioch. 48 18:23 After he spent 49 some time there, Paul left and went through the region of Galatia 50 and Phrygia, 51 strengthening all the disciples.
18:24 Now a Jew named Apollos, a native of Alexandria, arrived in Ephesus. 52 He was an eloquent speaker, 53 well-versed 54 in the scriptures. 18:25 He had been instructed in 55 the way of the Lord, and with great enthusiasm 56 he spoke and taught accurately the facts 57 about Jesus, although he knew 58 only the baptism of John. 18:26 He began to speak out fearlessly 59 in the synagogue, 60 but when Priscilla and Aquila 61 heard him, they took him aside 62 and explained the way of God to him more accurately. 18:27 When Apollos 63 wanted to cross over to Achaia, 64 the brothers encouraged 65 him 66 and wrote to the disciples to welcome him. When he arrived, he 67 assisted greatly those who had believed by grace, 18:28 for he refuted the Jews vigorously 68 in public debate, 69 demonstrating from the scriptures that the Christ 70 was Jesus. 71
