3:9 Listen to this, you leaders of the family 1 of Jacob,
you rulers of the nation 2 of Israel!
You 3 hate justice
and pervert all that is right.
48:1 Listen to this, O family of Jacob, 4
you who are called by the name ‘Israel,’
and are descended from Judah, 5
who take oaths in the name of the Lord,
and invoke 6 the God of Israel –
but not in an honest and just manner. 7
48:2 Indeed, they live in the holy city; 8
they trust in 9 the God of Israel,
whose name is the Lord who commands armies.
58:1 “Shout loudly! Don’t be quiet!
Yell as loud as a trumpet!
Confront my people with their rebellious deeds; 10
confront Jacob’s family with their sin! 11

all you family groups from the nation 13 of Israel.

9:6 It is not as though the word of God had failed. For not all those who are descended from Israel are truly Israel, 25 9:7 nor are all the children Abraham’s true descendants; rather “through Isaac will your descendants be counted.” 26 9:8 This means 27 it is not the children of the flesh 28 who are the children of God; rather, the children of promise are counted as descendants. 9:9 For this is what the promise declared: 29 “About a year from now 30 I will return and Sarah will have a son.” 31 9:10 Not only that, but when Rebekah had conceived children by one man, 32 our ancestor Isaac – 9:11 even before they were born or had done anything good or bad (so that God’s purpose in election 33 would stand, not by works but by 34 his calling) 35 – 9:12 36 it was said to her, “The older will serve the younger,” 37 9:13 just as it is written: “Jacob I loved, but Esau I hated.” 38
