1:1 The Proverbs 1 of 2 Solomon 3 son of David, 4 king of Israel: 5
1:2 To 6 learn 7 wisdom 8 and moral instruction, 9
and to discern 10 wise counsel. 11
1:3 To receive 12 moral instruction 13 in skillful living, 14
in 15 righteousness, 16 justice, 17 and equity. 18
1:4 To impart 19 shrewdness 20 to the morally naive, 21
and 22 a discerning 23 plan 24 to the young person. 25
1:5 (Let the wise also 26 hear 27 and gain 28 instruction,
and let the discerning 29 acquire 30 guidance! 31 )
1:6 To discern 32 the meaning of 33 a proverb and a parable, 34
the sayings of the wise 35 and their 36 riddles. 37
8:6 Listen, for I will speak excellent things, 38
and my lips will utter 39 what is right.
8:7 For my mouth 40 speaks truth, 41
and my lips 42 hate wickedness. 43
8:8 All the words of my mouth are righteous; 44
there is nothing in them twisted 45 or crooked.
8:9 All of them are clear 46 to the discerning
and upright to those who find knowledge.
8:10 Receive my instruction 47 rather than 48 silver,
and knowledge rather than choice gold.
22:17 Incline your ear 50 and listen to the words of the wise,
and apply your heart to my instruction. 51
22:18 For it is pleasing if 52 you keep these sayings 53 within you,
and 54 they are ready on your lips. 55
22:19 So that 56 your confidence may be in the Lord,
I am making them known to you today 57 – even you.
22:20 Have I not written thirty sayings 58 for you,
sayings 59 of counsel and knowledge,
22:21 to show you true and reliable words, 60
so that you may give accurate answers 61 to those who sent you?
1:1 Now 62 many have undertaken to compile an account 63 of the things 64 that have been fulfilled 65 among us, 1:2 like the accounts 66 passed on 67 to us by those who were eyewitnesses and servants of the word 68 from the beginning. 69 1:3 So 70 it seemed good to me as well, 71 because I have followed 72 all things carefully from the beginning, to write an orderly account 73 for you, most excellent Theophilus, 1:4 so that you may know for certain 74 the things you were taught. 75
