The Beloved about Her Lover:
2:3 Like 1 an apple tree 2 among the trees of the forest,
so is my beloved among the young men.
I delight 3 to sit 4 in his shade, 5
and his fruit 6 is sweet 7 to my taste. 8
The Beloved to the Maidens:
5:10 My beloved 9 is dazzling 10 and ruddy; 11
he stands out 12 in comparison to 13 all other men. 14
5:11 His head is like the most pure gold. 15
His hair is curly 16 – black like a raven.
5:12 His eyes are like doves by streams of water,
washed in milk, mounted like jewels.
5:13 His cheeks are like garden beds full of balsam trees 17 yielding 18 perfume.
His lips are like lilies dripping with drops of myrrh.
5:14 His arms are like rods of gold set with chrysolite.
His abdomen 19 is like polished ivory inlaid with sapphires.
5:15 His legs are like pillars of marble set on bases of pure gold.
His appearance is like Lebanon, choice as its cedars.
5:16 His mouth is very sweet; 20
he is totally desirable. 21
This is my beloved!
This is my companion, O maidens of Jerusalem!
45:2 You are the most handsome of all men! 22
You speak in an impressive and fitting manner! 23
For this reason 24 God grants you continual blessings. 25
5:11 Then 32 I looked and heard the voice of many angels in a circle around the throne, as well as the living creatures and the elders. Their 33 number was ten thousand times ten thousand 34 – thousands times thousands – 5:12 all of whom 35 were singing 36 in a loud voice:
“Worthy is the lamb who was killed 37
to receive power and wealth
and wisdom and might
and honor and glory and praise!”
5:13 Then 38 I heard every creature – in heaven, on earth, under the earth, in the sea, and all that is in them – singing: 39
“To the one seated on the throne and to the Lamb
be praise, honor, glory, and ruling power 40 forever and ever!”
