David Becomes King

11:1 All Israel joined David at Hebron and said, “Look, we are your very flesh and blood! ¹  11:2 In the past, even when Saul was king, you were Israel’s commanding general. ²  The Lord your God said to you, ‘You will shepherd my people Israel; you will rule over my people Israel.’” 11:3 When all the leaders ³  of Israel came to the king at Hebron, David made an agreement ⁴  with them in Hebron before the Lord. They anointed ⁵  David king over Israel, just as the Lord had announced through Samuel. ⁶ 

Ulangan 17:15

17:15 you must select without fail ⁷  a king whom the Lord your God chooses. From among your fellow citizens ⁸  you must appoint a king – you may not designate a foreigner who is not one of your fellow Israelites. ⁹ 

Ulangan 17:20

17:20 Then he will not exalt himself above his fellow citizens or turn from the commandments to the right or left, and he and his descendants will enjoy many years ruling over his kingdom ¹⁰  in Israel.

Ibrani 2:11-12

2:11 For indeed he who makes holy and those being made holy all have the same origin, ¹²  and so ¹³  he is not ashamed to call them brothers and sisters, ¹⁴  2:12 saying, “I will proclaim your name to my brothers; ¹⁵  in the midst of the assembly I will praise you.” ¹⁶

[17:20]  ¹⁰ tc Heb “upon his kingship.” Smr supplies כִּסֵא (kise’, “throne”) so as to read “upon the throne of his kingship.” This overliteralizes what is a clearly understood figure of speech.

[22:22]  ¹¹ tn Or “brothers,” but here the term does not carry a literal familial sense. It refers to the psalmist’s fellow members of the Israelite covenant community (see v. 23).

[2:11]  ¹⁴ tn Grk “brothers,” but the Greek word may be used for “brothers and sisters” as here (cf. BDAG 18 s.v. ἀδελφός 1, where considerable nonbiblical evidence for the plural ἀδελφοί [adelfoi] meaning “brothers and sisters” is cited). The context here also indicates both men and women are in view; note especially the collective τὰ παιδία (ta paidia) in v. 14.

[2:12]  ¹⁵ tn Here, because of its occurrence in an OT quotation, τοῖς ἀδελφοῖς (tois adelfois) has been translated simply as “brothers” rather than “brothers and sisters” (see the note on the latter phrase in the previous verse).
