1 Raja-raja 1:25

1:25 For today he has gone down and sacrificed many cattle, steers, and sheep and has invited all the king’s sons, the army commanders, and Abiathar the priest. At this moment ¹  they are having a feast ²  in his presence, and they have declared, ‘Long live King Adonijah!’ ³

8:9 There was nothing in the ark except the two stone tablets Moses had placed there in Horeb. ⁴  It was there that ⁵  the Lord made an agreement with the Israelites after he brought them out of the land of Egypt.

8:53 After all, ⁶  you picked them out of all the nations of the earth to be your special possession, ⁷  just as you, O sovereign Lord, announced through your servant Moses when you brought our ancestors out of Egypt.”

18:23 Let them bring us two bulls. Let them choose one of the bulls for themselves, cut it up into pieces, and place it on the wood. But they must not set it on fire. I will do the same to the other bull and place it on the wood. But I will not set it on fire.

18:27 At noon Elijah mocked them, “Yell louder! After all, he is a god; he may be deep in thought, or perhaps he stepped out for a moment or has taken a trip. Perhaps he is sleeping and needs to be awakened.” ⁸

[18:27]  ⁸ sn Elijah’s sarcastic proposals would have been especially offensive and irritating to Baal’s prophets, for they believed Baal was imprisoned in the underworld as death’s captive during this time of drought. Elijah’s apparent ignorance of their theology is probably designed for dramatic effect; indeed the suggestion that Baal is away on a trip or deep in sleep comes precariously close to the truth as viewed by the prophets.
