[1:48]  1 tn The Hebrew text reads, “and the king said.”

[1:48]  2 tn Or “Blessed be the Lord God of Israel, who….” In this blessing formula אֲשֶׁר (’asher, “who; because”) introduces the reason why the one being blessed deserves the honor.

[1:48]  3 tn Heb “and my eyes are seeing.”

[8:22]  4 tn Or “heaven.”

[8:27]  5 tn Heb “Indeed, can God really live on the earth?” The rhetorical question expects the answer, “Of course not,” the force of which the translation above seeks to reflect.

[12:11]  6 tn Heb “and now my father placed upon you a heavy yoke, but I will add to your yoke.”

[12:11]  7 tn Heb “My father punished you with whips, but I will punish you with scorpions.” “Scorpions” might allude to some type of torture using poisonous insects, but more likely it refers to a type of whip that inflicts an especially biting, painful wound. Cf. CEV “whips with pieces of sharp metal.”

[21:20]  8 tn Heb “and Ahab said to Elijah.” The narrative is elliptical and streamlined. The words “when Elijah arrived” are supplied in the translation for clarification.

[21:20]  9 tn Heb “he”; the referent (Elijah) has been specified in the translation for clarity.

[21:20]  10 tn Heb “you have sold yourself.”

[21:20]  11 tn Heb “in the eyes of.”
