14:15 The Lord will attack Israel, making it like a reed that sways in the water. ¹  He will remove Israel from this good land he gave to their ancestors ²  and scatter them beyond the Euphrates River, ³  because they angered the Lord by making Asherah poles. ⁴

16:7 The prophet Jehu son of Hanani received from the Lord the message predicting the downfall of Baasha and his family because of all the evil Baasha had done in the sight of the Lord. ⁷  His actions angered the Lord (including the way he had destroyed Jeroboam’s dynasty), so that his family ended up like Jeroboam’s. ⁸

16:16 While deployed there, the army received this report: ⁹  “Zimri has conspired against the king and assassinated him.” ¹⁰  So all Israel made Omri, the commander of the army, king over Israel that very day in the camp.

22:34 Now an archer shot an arrow at random, ¹¹  and it struck the king of Israel between the plates of his armor. The king ¹²  ordered his charioteer, “Turn around and take me from the battle line, ¹³  because I’m wounded.”

[14:15]  sn Asherah was a leading deity of the Canaanite pantheon, wife/sister of El and goddess of fertility. She was commonly worshiped at shrines in or near groves of evergreen trees, or, failing that, at places marked by wooden poles. These were to be burned or cut down (Deut 12:3; 16:21; Judg 6:25, 28, 30; 2 Kgs 18:4).
