4:22 Each day Solomon’s royal court consumed ¹  thirty cors ²  of finely milled flour, sixty cors of cereal,

4:29 God gave Solomon wisdom and very great discernment; the breadth of his understanding ³  was as infinite as the sand on the seashore. 4:30 Solomon was wiser than all the men of the east and all the sages of Egypt. ⁴

5:15 Solomon also had 70,000 common laborers ⁵  and 80,000 stonecutters ⁶  in the hills,

[4:22]  ² tn As a unit of dry measure a cor was roughly equivalent to six bushels.

[4:29]  ³ tn Heb “heart,” i.e., mind. (The Hebrew term translated “heart” often refers to the mental faculties.)

[4:30]  ⁴ tn Heb “the wisdom of Solomon was greater than the wisdom of all the sons of the east and all the wisdom of Egypt.”

[5:15]  ⁵ tn Heb “carriers of loads.”

[5:15]  ⁶ tn Heb “cutters” (probably of stones).
