[4:24]  1 tn Heb “because.” The words “his royal court was so large” are added to facilitate the logical connection with the preceding verse.

[4:24]  2 sn Tiphsah. This was located on the Euphrates River.

[4:24]  3 tn Heb “for he was ruling over all [the region] beyond the River, from Tiphsah to Gaza, over all the kingdoms beyond the River, and he had peace on every side all around.”

[20:15]  4 tn Heb “he”; the referent (Ahab) has been specified in the translation for clarity.

[20:15]  5 tn Heb “after them he assembled all the people, all the sons of Israel, seven thousand.”

[21:26]  6 tn The Hebrew word used here, גִלּוּלִים (gillulim) is always used as a disdainful reference to idols. It is generally thought to have originally referred to “dung pellets” (cf. KBL 183 s.v. גִלּוּלִים). It is only one of several terms used in this way, such as אֱלִילִים (’elilim, “worthless things”) and הֲבָלִים (havalim, “vanities” or “empty winds”).

[21:26]  7 tn Heb “He acted very abominably by walking after the disgusting idols, according to all which the Amorites had done.”
