8:29 Night and day may you watch over this temple, the place where you promised you would live. ¹  May you answer your servant’s prayer for this place. ²

A prayer of David.

17:1 Lord, consider my just cause! ⁴ 

Pay attention to my cry for help!

Listen to the prayer

I sincerely offer! ⁵ 

[8:29]  ¹ tn Heb “so your eyes might be open toward this house night and day, toward the place about which you said, ‘My name will be there.’”

[8:29]  ² tn Heb “by listening to the prayer which your servant is praying concerning this place.”

[17:1]  ³ sn Psalm 17. The psalmist asks God to intervene on his behalf because his life is threatened by dangerous enemies. He appeals to divine justice, for he is certain of his own innocence. Because he is innocent, he expects to encounter God and receive an assuring word.
