[2:8]  1 tn Or “lowly”; Heb “insignificant.”

[2:8]  2 tn The imperfect verbal form, which is parallel to the participle in the preceding line, is best understood here as indicating what typically happens.

[2:8]  3 tn Heb “a seat of honor.”

[4:3]  4 tn Or “people.”

[4:3]  5 tn Heb “before.”

[4:3]  6 tn Heb “and it will come in our midst and it will save.” After the cohortative (see “let’s take”), the prefixed verbal forms with the prefixed conjunction indicate purpose or result. The translation understands the ark to be the subject of the third masculine singular verbs, although it is possible to understand the Lord as the subject. In the latter case, one should translate, “when he is with us, he will save us.”

[6:3]  7 tc The LXX and a Qumran ms add “the covenant of the Lord.”

[8:21]  8 tn Heb “and Samuel heard all the words of the people and he spoke them into the ears of the Lord.”

[27:7]  9 tn Heb “the number of the days.”

[27:7]  10 tn Heb “days.” The plural of the word “day” is sometimes used idiomatically to refer specifically to a year. In addition to this occurrence in v. 7 see also 1 Sam 1:3, 21; 2:19; 20:6; Lev 25:29; Judg 17:10.
