A Letter That Caused Sadness

7:4 I have great confidence in you; I take great pride ¹  on your behalf. I am filled with encouragement; ²  I am overflowing with joy in the midst of ³  all our suffering.

2 Korintus 8:23

8:23 If there is any question ⁴  about Titus, he is my partner and fellow worker among you; if there is any question about our brothers, they are messengers ⁵  of the churches, a glory to Christ.

2 Korintus 13:3

13:3 since you are demanding proof that Christ is speaking through me. He ⁶  is not weak toward you but is powerful among you.

[7:4]  ³ tn Grk “I am overflowing with joy in all our suffering”; the words “in the midst of” are not in the Greek text but are supplied to clarify that Paul is not rejoicing in the suffering itself, but in his relationship with the Corinthians in the midst of all his suffering.

[8:23]  ⁴ tn Grk “If concerning Titus” (εἴτε ὑπὲρ Τίτου, eite Juper Titou); the Greek sentence opens with an ellipsis which must be supplied: If [there is any question] about Titus.”

[8:23]  ⁵ tn Grk “apostles.”

[13:3]  ⁶ tn Grk “who.” Because of the length and complexity of the Greek sentence, a new sentence was started here in the translation.
