8:1 Now we make known to you, brothers and sisters, ¹  the grace of God given to the churches of Macedonia,

7:7 We were encouraged ²  not only by his arrival, but also by the encouragement ³  you gave ⁴  him, as he reported to us your longing, your mourning, ⁵  your deep concern ⁶  for me, so that I rejoiced more than ever.

2 Korintus 1:8

1:8 For we do not want you to be unaware, brothers and sisters, ⁷  regarding the affliction that happened to us in the province of Asia, ⁸  that we were burdened excessively, beyond our strength, so that we despaired even of living.

2 Korintus 8:22

8:22 And we are sending ⁹  with them our brother whom we have tested many times and found eager in many matters, but who now is much more eager than ever because of the great confidence he has in you.

2 Korintus 9:2

9:2 because I know your eagerness to help. ¹⁰  I keep boasting to the Macedonians about this eagerness of yours, ¹¹  that Achaia has been ready to give ¹²  since last year, and your zeal to participate ¹³  has stirred up most of them. ¹⁴ 

[8:1]  ¹ tn Grk “brothers.” See note on the phrase “brothers and sisters” in 1:8.

[7:7]  ² tn Because of the length and complexity of this Greek sentence, a new sentence was started here in the translation by supplying the phrase “We were encouraged.”

[7:7]  ³ tn Or “comfort,” “consolation.”

[7:7]  ⁴ tn Grk “by the encouragement with which he was encouraged by you.” The passive construction was translated as an active one in keeping with contemporary English style, and the repeated word “encouraged” was replaced in the translation by “gave” to avoid redundancy in the translation.

[7:7]  ⁵ tn Or “your grieving,” “your deep sorrow.”

[7:7]  ⁶ tn Or “your zeal.”

[1:8]  ⁷ tn Grk “brothers,” but the Greek word may be used for “brothers and sisters” or “fellow Christians” as here (cf. BDAG 18 s.v. ἀδελφός 1., where considerable nonbiblical evidence for the plural ἀδελφοί [adelfoi] meaning “brothers and sisters” is cited).

[1:8]  ⁸ tn Grk “Asia”; in the NT this always refers to the Roman province of Asia, made up of about one-third of the west and southwest end of modern Asia Minor. Asia lay to the west of the region of Phrygia and Galatia. The words “the province of” are supplied to indicate to the modern reader that this does not refer to the continent of Asia.

[8:22]  ⁹ tn This verb has been translated as an epistolary aorist.

[9:2]  ¹⁰ tn The words “to help” are not in the Greek text but are implied.

[9:2]  ¹¹ tn Grk “concerning which I keep boasting to the Macedonians about you.” A new sentence was started here and the translation was simplified by removing the relative clause and repeating the antecedent “this eagerness of yours.”

[9:2]  ¹² tn The words “to give” are not in the Greek text, but are implied.

[9:2]  ¹³ tn The words “to participate” are not in the Greek text but are implied.

[9:2]  ¹⁴ sn Most of them is a reference to the Macedonians (cf. v. 4).
