[9:7]  1 tn Or “must do.” The words “of you” and “should give” are not in the Greek text, which literally reads, “Each one just as he has decided in his heart.” The missing words are an ellipsis; these or similar phrases must be supplied for the English reader.

[9:7]  2 tn Or “in his mind.”

[9:7]  3 tn Or “not from regret”; Grk “not out of grief.”

[9:7]  4 tn Or “not out of a sense of duty”; Grk “from necessity.”

[9:1]  5 tn Or “it is superfluous.”

[9:1]  6 tn Or “this ministry,” “this contribution.”

[5:2]  7 tn Grk “shepherd,” “tend,” “pastor.”

[5:2]  8 tc A few important mss (א* B sa) lack ἐπισκοποῦντες (episkopounte", “exercising oversight”), but the participle enjoys otherwise good ms support (Ì72 א2 A P Ψ 33 1739 Ï lat). A decision is difficult because normally the shorter reading is preferred, especially when found in excellent witnesses. However, in this instance the omission may be due to a hesitation among some scribes to associate oversight with elders, since the later church viewed overseer/bishop as a separate office from elder.

[5:2]  9 tn Or “not under compulsion/coercion.”

[5:2]  10 tn Grk “according to God.”
