[1:11]  1 tn Heb “he”; the referent (the king) has been specified in the translation for clarity.

[1:11]  2 tc The MT reads, “he answered and said to him.” The verb “he answered” (וַיַּעַן, vayyaan) is probably a corruption of “he went up” (וַיַּעַל, vayyaal). See v. 9.

[1:11]  3 sn In this second panel of the three-paneled narrative, the king and his captain are more arrogant than before. The captain uses a more official sounding introduction (“this is what the king says”) and the king adds “at once” to the command.

[2:21]  4 tn Or “healed.”

[2:21]  5 tn Heb “there will no longer be from there death and miscarriage [or, ‘barrenness’].”

[4:16]  6 tn Heb “at this appointed time, at the time [when it is] reviving.” For a discussion of the second phrase see M. Cogan and H. Tadmor, II Kings (AB), 57.

[4:43]  7 tn Heb “How can I set this before a hundred men?”

[4:43]  8 tn The verb forms are infinitives absolute (Heb “eating and leaving over”) and have to be translated in light of the context.

[6:31]  9 tn Heb “So may God do to me, and so may he add.”

[6:31]  10 tn Heb “if the head of Elisha son of Shaphat stays on him today.”

[9:3]  11 tn Heb “anointed.”

[9:3]  12 tn Heb “and open the door and run away and do not delay.”

[9:19]  13 tn Heb “and he came to them.”

[9:19]  14 tc The MT has simply “peace,” omitting the prefixed interrogative particle. It is likely that the particle has been accidentally omitted; several ancient witnesses include it or assume its presence.

[10:1]  15 map For location see Map2 B1; Map4 D3; Map5 E2; Map6 A4; Map7 C1.

[10:1]  16 tn Heb “to the officers of Jezreel, the elders, and to the guardians of Ahab, saying.” It is not certain why the officials of Jezreel would be in Samaria. They may have fled there after they heard what happened to Joram and before Jehu entered the city. They would have had time to flee while Jehu was pursuing Ahaziah.

[18:23]  17 tn Heb “exchange pledges.”

[19:20]  18 tn Heb “That which you prayed to me concerning Sennacherib king of Assyria I have heard.” The verb “I have heard” does not appear in the parallel passage in Isa 37:21, where אֲשֶׁר (’asher) probably has a causal sense, “because.”

[21:12]  19 tn Heb “so that everyone who hears it, his two ears will quiver.”
