1:12 Elijah replied to them, ¹  “If I am indeed a prophet, may fire come down from the sky and consume you and your fifty soldiers!” Fire from God ²  came down from the sky and consumed him and his fifty soldiers.

11:15 Jehoiada the priest ordered the officers of the units of hundreds, who were in charge of the army, ¹⁰  “Bring her outside the temple to the guards. ¹¹  Put the sword to anyone who follows her.” The priest gave this order because he had decided she should not be executed in the Lord’s temple. ¹²

13:23 But the Lord had mercy on them and felt pity for them. ¹³  He extended his favor to them ¹⁴  because of the promise he had made ¹⁵  to Abraham, Isaac, and Jacob. He has been unwilling to destroy them or remove them from his presence to this very day. ¹⁶

18:27 But the chief adviser said to them, “My master did not send me to speak these words only to your master and to you. ¹⁷  His message is also for the men who sit on the wall, for they will eat their own excrement and drink their own urine along with you.” ¹⁸ 

[1:12]  ¹ tc Two medieval Hebrew mss, the LXX, and the Syriac Peshitta have the singular “to him.”

[1:12]  ² tn Or “intense fire.” The divine name may be used idiomatically to emphasize the intensity of the fire. Whether one translates אֱלֹהִים (’elohim) here as a proper name or idiomatically, this addition to the narrative (the name is omitted in the first panel, v. 10b) emphasizes the severity of the judgment and is appropriate given the more intense command delivered by the king to the prophet in this panel.

[6:11]  ³ tn Heb “and the heart of the king of Syria was stirred up over this thing.”

[6:11]  ⁴ tn Heb “servants.”

[6:11]  ⁵ tn Heb “Will you not tell me who among us [is] for the king of Israel?” The sarcastic rhetorical question expresses the king’s suspicion.
