11:14 Then she saw ¹  the king standing by the pillar, according to custom. The officers stood beside the king with their trumpets and all the people of the land were celebrating and blowing trumpets. Athaliah tore her clothes and screamed, “Treason, treason!” ²

24:1 During Jehoiakim’s reign, ⁴  King Nebuchadnezzar of Babylon attacked. ⁵  Jehoiakim was his subject for three years, but then he rebelled against him. ⁶

24:20 What follows is a record of what happened to Jerusalem and Judah because of the Lord’s anger; he finally threw them out of his presence. ⁷  Zedekiah rebelled against the king of Babylon.

[11:14]  ² tn Or “conspiracy, conspiracy.”

[21:24]  ³ tn Heb “the people of the land.” The pronoun “they” has been used in the translation for stylistic reasons, to avoid the repetition of the phrase “the people of the land” from the beginning of the verse.

[24:1]  ⁴ tn Heb “In his days.”

[24:1]  ⁵ tn Heb “came up.” Perhaps an object (“against him”) has been accidentally omitted from the text. See M. Cogan and H. Tadmor, II Kings (AB), 306.

[24:1]  ⁶ tn The Hebrew text has “and he turned and rebelled against him.”

[24:20]  ⁷ tn Heb “Surely [or, ‘for’] because of the anger of the Lord this happened in Jerusalem and Judah until he threw them out from upon his face.”
