18:17 The king of Assyria sent his commanding general, the chief eunuch, and the chief adviser ¹  from Lachish to King Hezekiah in Jerusalem, ²  along with a large army. They went up and arrived at Jerusalem. They went ³  and stood at the conduit of the upper pool which is located on the road to the field where they wash and dry cloth. ⁴ 

Yesaya 22:9

22:9 You saw the many breaks

in the walls of the city of David; ⁵ 

you stored up water in the lower pool.

Yesaya 22:11

22:11 You made a reservoir between the two walls

for the water of the old pool –

but you did not trust in ⁶  the one who made it; ⁷ 

you did not depend on ⁸  the one who formed it long ago!

Nahum 3:14

3:14 Draw yourselves water for a siege! ⁹ 

Strengthen your fortifications!

Trample the mud ¹⁰  and tread the clay!

Make mud bricks to strengthen your walls! ¹¹

[22:11]  ⁷ tn The antecedent of the third feminine singular suffix here and in the next line is unclear. The closest feminine noun is “pool” in the first half of the verse. Perhaps this “old pool” symbolizes the entire city, which had prospered because of God’s provision and protection through the years.
