18:7 The Lord was with him; he succeeded in all his endeavors. ¹  He rebelled against the king of Assyria and refused to submit to him. ²

18:20 Your claim to have a strategy and military strength is just empty talk. ³  In whom are you trusting that you would dare to rebel against me?

2 Raja-raja 24:20

24:20 What follows is a record of what happened to Jerusalem and Judah because of the Lord’s anger; he finally threw them out of his presence. ⁴  Zedekiah rebelled against the king of Babylon.

[18:7]  ¹ tn Heb “in all which he went out [to do], he was successful.”

[18:7]  ² tn Heb “and did not serve him.”

[18:20]  ³ tn Heb “you say only a word of lips, counsel and might for battle.” Sennacherib’s message appears to be in broken Hebrew at this point. The phrase “word of lips” refers to mere or empty talk in Prov 14:23.

[24:20]  ⁴ tn Heb “Surely [or, ‘for’] because of the anger of the Lord this happened in Jerusalem and Judah until he threw them out from upon his face.”
