Elisha Demonstrates His Authority

2:19 The men of the city said to Elisha, “Look, the city has a good location, as our ¹  master can see. But the water is bad and the land doesn’t produce crops.” ² 

2 Raja-raja 4:41

4:41 He said, “Get some flour.” Then he threw it into the pot and said, “Now pour some out for the men so they may eat.” ³  There was no longer anything harmful in the pot.

2 Raja-raja 5:14

5:14 So he went down and dipped in the Jordan seven times, as the prophet had instructed. ⁴  His skin became as smooth as a young child’s ⁵  and he was healed.

6:10 So the king of Israel sent a message to the place the prophet had pointed out, warning it ⁶  to be on its guard. This happened on several occasions. ⁷

6:12 One of his advisers said, “No, my master, O king. The prophet Elisha who lives in Israel keeps telling the king of Israel the things you say in your bedroom.”

7:5 So they started toward ⁸  the Syrian camp at dusk. When they reached the edge of the Syrian camp, there was no one there.

16:5 At that time King Rezin of Syria and King Pekah son of Remaliah of Israel attacked Jerusalem. ⁹  They besieged Ahaz, ¹⁰  but were unable to conquer him. ¹¹

Elsewhere when the Niphal infinitive of לָחָם (lakham) follows the verb יָכֹל (yakhol), the infinitive appears to have the force of “prevail against.” See Num 22:11; 1 Sam 17:9; and the parallel passage in Isa 7:1.
