3:11 Jehoshaphat asked, “Is there no prophet of the Lord here that we might seek the Lord’s direction?” ¹  One of the servants of the king of Israel answered, “Elisha son of Shapat is here; he used to be Elijah’s servant.” ²

4:39 Someone went out to the field to gather some herbs and found a wild vine. ³  He picked some of its fruit, ⁴  enough to fill up the fold of his robe. He came back, cut it up, and threw the slices ⁵  into the stew pot, not knowing they were harmful. ⁶

6:12 One of his advisers said, “No, my master, O king. The prophet Elisha who lives in Israel keeps telling the king of Israel the things you say in your bedroom.”

7:8 When the men with a skin disease reached the edge of the camp, they entered a tent and had a meal. ⁷  They also took some silver, gold, and clothes and went and hid it all. ⁸  Then they went back and entered another tent. They looted it ⁹  and went and hid what they had taken.

7:13 One of his advisers replied, “Pick some men and have them take five of the horses that are left in the city. (Even if they are killed, their fate will be no different than that of all the Israelite people – we’re all going to die!) ¹⁰  Let’s send them out so we can know for sure what’s going on.” ¹¹

8:6 The king asked the woman about it, and she gave him the details. ¹²  The king assigned a eunuch to take care of her request and ordered him, ¹³  “Give her back everything she owns, as well as the amount of crops her field produced from the day she left the land until now.”

12:9 Jehoiada the priest took a chest and drilled a hole in its lid. He placed it on the right side of the altar near the entrance of ¹⁴  the Lord’s temple. The priests who guarded the entrance would put into it all the silver brought to the Lord’s temple.

2 Raja-raja 15:20

15:20 Menahem got this silver by taxing all the wealthy men in Israel; he took fifty shekels of silver from each one of them and paid it to the king of Assyria. ¹⁵  Then the king of Assyria left; he did not stay there in the land.

2 Raja-raja 17:27

17:27 So the king of Assyria ordered, “Take back one of the priests whom you ¹⁶  deported from there. He must settle there and teach them the requirements of the God of the land.” ¹⁷ 

[3:11]  ¹ tn Heb “that we might inquire of the Lord through him?”

[3:11]  ² tn Heb “who poured water on the hands of Elijah.” This refers to one of the typical tasks of a servant.

[4:39]  ³ tn Heb “a vine of the field.”

[4:39]  ⁴ tn Heb “[some] of the gourds of the field.”

[4:39]  ⁵ tn Heb “he came and cut [them up].”

[4:39]  ⁶ tc The Hebrew text reads, “for they did not know” (יָדָעוּ, yada’u) but some emend the final shureq (וּ, indicating a third plural subject) to holem vav (וֹ, a third masculine singular pronominal suffix on a third singular verb) and read “for he did not know it.” Perhaps it is best to omit the final vav as dittographic (note the vav at the beginning of the next verb form) and read simply, “for he did not know.” See M. Look, they are like all the people of Israel that have come to an end.” The MT is dittographic here; the words “that remain in it. Look they are like all the people of Israel” have been accidentally repeated. The original text read, “Let them take five of the remaining horses that remain in it. Look, they are like all the people of Israel that have come to an end.”

[8:6]  ¹² tn Heb “and the king asked the woman and she told him.”

[8:6]  ¹³ tn Heb “and he assigned to her an official, saying.”

[12:9]  ¹⁴ tn Heb “on the right side of the altar as a man enters.”

[15:20]  ¹⁵ tn Heb “and Menahem brought out the silver over Israel, over the prominent men of means, to give to the king of Assyria, fifty shekels of silver for each man.”

[17:27]  ¹⁶ tc The second plural subject may refer to the leaders of the Assyrian army. However, some prefer to read “whom I deported,” changing the verb to a first person singular form with a third masculine plural pronominal suffix. This reading has some support from Hebrew, Greek, and Aramaic witnesses.

[17:27]  ¹⁷ tc Heb “and let them go and let them live there, and let him teach them the requirements of the God of the land.” The two plural verbs seem inconsistent with the preceding and following contexts, where only one priest is sent back to Samaria. The singular has the support of Greek, Syriac, and Latin witnesses.
