3:9 So the kings of Israel, Judah, and Edom ¹  set out together. They wandered around on the road for seven days and finally ran out of water for the men and animals they had with them.

14:9 King Jehoash of Israel sent this message back to King Amaziah of Judah, “A thornbush in Lebanon sent this message to a cedar in Lebanon, ‘Give your daughter to my son as a wife.’ Then a wild animal ²  of Lebanon came by and trampled down the thorn. ³

3:17 for this is what the Lord says, ‘You will not feel ⁴  any wind or see any rain, but this valley will be full of water and you and your cattle and animals will drink.’

3:4 Now King Mesha of Moab was a sheep breeder. ⁶  He would send as tribute ⁷  to the king of Israel 100,000 male lambs and the wool of 100,000 rams.

25:14 They also took the pots, shovels, ⁸  trimming shears, ⁹  pans, and all the bronze utensils used by the priests. ¹⁰

16:15 King Ahaz ordered Uriah the priest, “On the large altar ¹¹  offer the morning burnt sacrifice, the evening grain offering, the royal burnt sacrifices and grain offering, the burnt sacrifice for all the people of Israel, their grain offering, and their libations. Sprinkle all the blood of the burnt sacrifice and other sacrifices on it. The bronze altar will be for my personal use.” ¹² 

[3:9]  ¹ tn Heb “the king of Israel and the king of Judah and the king of Edom.”

[14:9]  ² tn Heb “the animal of the field.”

[14:9]  ³ sn Judah is the thorn in the allegory. Amaziah’s success has deceived him into thinking he is on the same level as the major powers in the area (symbolized by the cedar). In reality he is not capable of withstanding an attack by a real military power such as Israel (symbolized by the wild animal).
