4:13 Elisha said to Gehazi, ¹  “Tell her, ‘Look, you have treated us with such great respect. ²  What can I do for you? Can I put in a good word for you with the king or the commander of the army?’” She replied, “I’m quite secure.” ³

17:6 In the ninth year of Hoshea’s reign, the king of Assyria captured Samaria and deported the people of Israel ⁴  to Assyria. He settled them in Halah, along the Habor (the river of Gozan), and in the cities of the Medes.

17:27 So the king of Assyria ordered, “Take back one of the priests whom you ⁵  deported from there. He must settle there and teach them the requirements of the God of the land.” ⁶

22:14 So Hilkiah the priest, Ahikam, Acbor, Shaphan, and Asaiah went to Huldah the prophetess, the wife of Shullam son of Tikvah, the son of Harhas, the supervisor of the wardrobe. ⁷  (She lived in Jerusalem in the Mishneh ⁸  district.) They stated their business, ⁹ 

2 Raja-raja 24:14

24:14 He deported all the residents of Jerusalem, including all the officials and all the soldiers (10,000 people in all). This included all the craftsmen and those who worked with metal. No one was left except for the poorest among the people of the land.

[4:13]  ¹ tn Heb “he said to him.”

[4:13]  ² tn Heb “you have turned trembling to us with all this trembling.” The exaggerated language is probably idiomatic. The point seems to be that she has taken great pains or gone out of her way to be kind to them. Her concern was a sign of her respect for the prophetic office.

[4:13]  ³ tn Heb “Among my people I am living.” This answer suggests that she has security within the context of her family.

[17:6]  ⁴ tn The Hebrew text has simply “Israel” as the object of the verb.

[17:27]  ⁵ tc The second plural subject may refer to the leaders of the Assyrian army. However, some prefer to read “whom I deported,” changing the verb to a first person singular form with a third masculine plural pronominal suffix. This reading has some support from Hebrew, Greek, and Aramaic witnesses.

[17:27]  ⁶ tc Heb “and let them go and let them live there, and let him teach them the requirements of the God of the land.” The two plural verbs seem inconsistent with the preceding and following contexts, where only one priest is sent back to Samaria. The singular has the support of Greek, Syriac, and Latin witnesses.

[22:14]  ⁷ tn Heb “the keeper of the clothes.”
