2 Samuel 11:11

11:11 Uriah replied to David, “The ark and Israel and Judah reside in temporary shelters, and my lord Joab and my lord’s soldiers are camping in the open field. Should I go to my house to eat and drink and have marital relations ¹  with my wife? As surely as you are alive, ²  I will not do this thing!”

2 Samuel 23:17

23:17 and said, “O Lord, I will not do this! ³  It is equivalent to the blood of the men who risked their lives by going.” ⁴  So he refused to drink it. Such were the exploits of the three elite warriors. ⁵

[11:11]  ² tn Heb “as you live and as your soul lives.”

[23:17]  ³ tn Heb “Far be it to me, O Lord, from doing this.”

[23:17]  ⁴ tn Heb “[Is it not] the blood of the men who were going with their lives?”

[23:17]  ⁵ tn Heb “These things the three warriors did.”
