2 Samuel 12:4

Konteks

12:4 “When a traveler arrived at the rich man’s home, 1  he did not want to use one of his own sheep or cattle to feed 2  the traveler who had come to visit him. 3  Instead, he took the poor man’s lamb and cooked 4  it for the man who had come to visit him.”

[12:4]  1 tn Heb “came to the rich man.” In the translation “arrived at the rich man’s home” has been used for stylistic reasons.

[12:4]  2 tn Heb “and he refused to take from his flock and from his herd to prepare [a meal] for.”

[12:4]  3 tn Heb “who had come to him” (also a second time later in this verse). The word “visit” has been supplied in the translation for stylistic reasons and for clarity.

[12:4]  4 tn Heb “and prepared.”

[20:6]  5 tn Heb “find.” The perfect verbal form is unexpected with the preceding word “otherwise.” We should probably read instead the imperfect. Although it is possible to understand the perfect here as indicating that the feared result is thought of as already having taken place (cf. BDB 814 s.v. פֶּן 2), it is more likely that the perfect is simply the result of scribal error. In this context the imperfect would be more consistent with the following verb וְהִצִּיל (vÿhitsil, “and he will get away”).

[23:9]  6 tn Heb “after him.”

[23:9]  7 tc This follows the Qere and many medieval Hebrew mss in reading דֹּדוֹ (dodo) rather than the Kethib of the MT דֹּדַי (dodai; cf. ASV, NIV, NLT). But see 1 Chr 27:4.

[23:9]  8 tn Heb “went up.”
