[12:13]  1 tn Heb “and the king, Rehoboam, strengthened himself in Jerusalem and ruled.”

[12:13]  2 tn Heb “Rehoboam.” The recurrence of the proper name here is redundant in terms of contemporary English style, so the pronoun has been used in the translation instead.

[12:13]  3 tn Heb “the city where the Lord chose to place his name from all the tribes of Israel.”

[12:13]  4 tn Heb “his”; the referent has been specified in the translation for clarity.

[14:7]  5 tn The words “the people of” are supplied in the translation for clarification. The Hebrew text uses the name “Judah” by metonymy for the people of Judah.

[14:7]  6 tn Heb “and we will surround [them] with wall[s] and towers, doors, and bars.”

[14:7]  7 tn Heb “sought.”

[14:7]  8 tn Heb “and he has given us rest all around.”

[14:7]  9 tn The words “the cities” are supplied in the translation for clarification and for stylistic reasons.
