13:18 That day ¹  the Israelites were defeated; the men of Judah prevailed because they relied on the Lord God of their ancestors.

Mazmur 25:3

25:3 Certainly none who rely on you will be humiliated.

Those who deal in treachery will be thwarted ²  and humiliated.

[13:18]  ¹ tn Heb “at that time.”

[25:3]  ² tn Heb “those who deal in treachery in vain.” The adverb רֵיקָם (reqam, “in vain”) probably refers to the failure (or futility) of their efforts. Another option is to understand it as meaning “without cause” (cf. NIV “without excuse”; NRSV “wantonly treacherous”).
