2 Tawarikh 29:6

29:6 For our fathers were unfaithful; they did what is evil in the sight of ¹  the Lord our God and abandoned him! They turned ²  away from the Lord’s dwelling place and rejected him. ³ 

Yeremia 2:27

2:27 They say to a wooden idol, ⁴  ‘You are my father.’

They say to a stone image, ‘You gave birth to me.’ ⁵ 

Yes, they have turned away from me instead of turning to me. ⁶ 

Yet when they are in trouble, they say, ‘Come and save us!’

[29:6]  ¹ tn Heb “in the eyes of.”

[29:6]  ² tn Heb “turned their faces.”

[29:6]  ³ tn Heb “and turned the back.”

[2:27]  ⁴ tn Heb “wood…stone…”

[2:27]  ⁵ sn The reference to wood and stone is, of course, a pejorative reference to idols made by human hands. See the next verse where reference is made to “the gods you have made.”

[2:27]  ⁶ tn Heb “they have turned [their] backs to me, not [their] faces.”
