[3:17]  1 tn Or “one on the south and the other on the north.”

[3:17]  2 tn The name “Jachin” appears to be a verbal form and probably means, “he establishes.”

[3:17]  3 tn The meaning of the name “Boaz” is uncertain. For various proposals, see BDB 126-27 s.v. בֹּעַז. One attractive option is to revocalize the name asבְּעֹז (bÿoz, “in strength”) and to understand it as completing the verbal form on the first pillar. Taking the words together and reading from right to left, one can translate the sentence, “he establishes [it] in strength.”

[4:19]  4 tn Heb “the bread of the face/presence.”

[4:19]  sn This bread offered to God was viewed as a perpetual offering to God. See Lev 24:5-9.

[7:1]  5 tn Or “the sky.” The Hebrew term שָׁמַיִם (shamayim) may be translated “heaven(s)” or “sky” depending on the context.

[8:7]  6 tn Heb “all the people who were left from the Hittites, the Amorites, the Perizzites, the Hivites, and the Jebusites, who were not from Israel.”

[23:5]  7 tn Heb “all the people.”

[32:28]  8 tn Heb “and stalls for all beasts and beasts, and flocks for the stalls.” The repetition of בְהֵמָה (bÿhemah, “beast”) here indicates various kinds of livestock.

[34:32]  9 tn Heb “and he caused to stand everyone who was found in Jerusalem and Benjamin.”

[35:22]  10 tn Heb “and Josiah did not turn his face from him.”

[35:22]  11 tn Heb “listen to.”
