Solomon Moves the Ark into the Temple

5:2 Then Solomon convened Israel’s elders – all the leaders of the Israelite tribes and families – in Jerusalem, ¹  so they could witness the transferal of the ark of the covenant of the Lord from the City of David ²  (that is, Zion). ³

6:36 “The time will come when your people ⁴  will sin against you (for there is no one who is sinless!) and you will be angry at them and deliver them over to their enemies, who will take them as prisoners to their land, whether far away or close by.

30:9 For if you return to the Lord, your brothers and sons will be shown mercy by their captors and return to this land. The Lord your God is merciful and compassionate; he will not reject you ¹¹  if you return to him.”

35:24 So his servants took him out of the chariot, put him in another chariot that he owned, and brought him to Jerusalem, ¹²  where he died. He was buried in the tombs of his ancestors; ¹³  all the people of Judah and Jerusalem mourned Josiah.

36:10 At the beginning of the year King Nebuchadnezzar ordered him to be brought ¹⁴  to Babylon, along with the valuable items in the Lord’s temple. In his place he made his relative ¹⁵  Zedekiah king over Judah and Jerusalem.

[5:2]  ² sn The phrase the City of David refers here to the fortress of Zion in Jerusalem, not to Bethlehem. See 2 Sam 5:7.

[6:36]  ⁴ tn Heb “they”; the referent (God’s people) has been specified in the translation for clarity.

[6:38]  ⁵ tn Or “soul.”

[6:38]  ⁶ tn Heb “your name.” The word “name” sometimes refers to one’s reputation or honor (thus the translation here, “your honor”).

[20:25]  ⁸ tc The MT reads פְגָרִים (fÿgarim, “corpses”), but this seems odd among a list of plunder. A few medieval Hebrew mss and the Vulgate read בְגָדִים (vÿgadim, “clothing”), which fits the context much better.

[36:10]  ¹⁵ tn Heb “and he made Zedekiah his brother king.” According to the parallel text in 2 Kgs 24:17, Zedekiah was Jehoiachin’s uncle, not his brother. Therefore many interpreters understand אח here in its less specific sense of “relative” (NEB “made his father’s brother Zedekiah king”; NASB “made his kinsman Zedekiah king”; NIV “made Jehoiachin’s uncle, Zedekiah, king”; NRSV “made his brother Zedekiah king”).
