Solomon Dedicates the Temple

7:1 When Solomon finished praying, fire came down from heaven ²  and consumed the burnt offering and the sacrifices, and the Lord’s splendor filled the temple.

The Babylonians Destroy Jerusalem

36:15 The Lord God of their ancestors ⁶  continually warned them through his messengers, ⁷  for he felt compassion for his people and his dwelling place.

[6:42]  ¹ tc Heb “do not turn away the face of your anointed ones.” Many medieval Hebrew mss, as well as the ancient versions, read the singular, “your anointed,” which would probably refer to Solomon specifically, rather than the people.

[7:1]  ² tn Or “the sky.” The Hebrew term שָׁמַיִם (shamayim) may be translated “heaven(s)” or “sky” depending on the context.

[29:8]  ³ tn Heb “and he made them [an object] of dread and devastation and hissing.”

[29:16]  ⁴ tn Heb “in the temple of the Lord.”

[35:6]  ⁵ tn Heb “according to the word of the Lord by the hand of Moses.”
