• [Kej 18:19] Father Of All, Thy Care We Bless

  Father of all, Thy care we bless, Which crowns our families with peace; From Thee they spring, and by Thy hand They are, and shall be still sustained. To God, most worthy to be praised, Be our domestic altars raised; Who, Lord of Heaven, yet deigns to come And sanctify our humblest home. To Thee may each united house Morning and night present its vows; Our servants there, and rising race Be taught Thy precepts and Thy grace. So may each future age proclaim The honors of Thy glorious Name, And each succeeding race remove To join the family above.

• [Hos 14:9] Oh, It Is Hard To Work For God

  Oh, it is hard to work for God, To rise and take His part Upon this battlefield of earth, And not sometimes lose heart! He hides Himself so wondrously, As though there were no God; He is least seen when all the pow’rs Of ill are most abroad. Ah, God is other than we think, His ways are far above, Far beyond reason’s height, and reached Only by childlike love. Workman of God! O lose not heart, But learn what God is like, And in the darkest battlefield Thou shalt know where to strike. Then learn to scorn the praise of men, And learn to lose with God; For Jesus won the world through shame, And beckons thee His road. For right is right, as God is God, And right the day must win; To doubt would be disloyalty, To falter were to sin.

  Herald, in the wilderness, Breaking up the road, Sinking mountains, raising plains, For the path of God; Prophet, to the multitudes Calling to repent, In the way of righteousness Unto Israel sent; Messenger, God’s chosen one Foremost to proclaim, Proffered titles passing by, Pointing to the Lamb. Captive, for the word of truth Boldly witnessing; Then in Herod’s dungeon cave, Faint and languishing; Martyr, sacrificed to sin At that feast of shame; As his life foreshowed the Lord, In his death the same— Holy Jesus, when He heard, Went apart to pray: Thus may we our lesson take From his saint today.

  On Jordan’s bank the Baptist’s cry Announces that the Lord is nigh; Come, then, and hearken, for he brings Glad tidings from the King of kings! Then cleansed be every breast from sin; Make straight the way for God within; Prepare we in our hearts a home, Where such a mighty Guest may come. For Thou art our Salvation, Lord, Our Refuge, and our great Reward. Without Thy grace our souls must fade And wither like a flower decayed. Stretch forth Thine hand, to heal our sore, And make us rise and fall no more; Once more upon Thy people shine, And fill the world with love divine. • [Yoh 1:23] There’s A Voice In The Wilderness Crying

  There’s a voice in the wilderness crying, A call from the ways untrod: Prepare in the desert a highway, A highway for our God! The valleys shall be exalted, The lofty hills brought low; Make straight all the crooked places, Where the Lord our God may go! O Zion, that bringest good tidings, Get thee up to the heights and sing! Proclaim to a desolate people The coming of their King. Like the flowers of the field they perish, The works of men decay, The power and pomp of nations Shall pass like a dream away. But the word of our God endureth, The arm of the Lord is strong; He stands in the midst of nations, And He will right the wrong. He shall feed His flock like a shepherd, And fold the lambs to His breast; In pastures of peace He’ll lead them, And give to the weary rest.
