[7:9]  1 tn Traditionally, “the high places” (so KJV, NAB, NASB, NIV, NRSV); NLT “pagan shrines.”

[7:9]  2 tn Heb “And I will rise up against the house of Jeroboam with a sword.”

[7:10]  3 map For location see Map4 G4; Map5 C1; Map6 E3; Map7 D1; Map8 G3.

[7:10]  4 tn The direct object of the verb translated “sent” is elided in the Hebrew text. The words “this message” are supplied in the translation for clarity and for stylistic reasons.

[7:10]  5 tn Heb “in the middle of the house of Israel.”

[7:10]  6 tn Heb “words.”

[7:11]  7 tn Or “for.”

[7:11]  8 tn See the note on the word “exile” in 5:5.

[7:2]  9 tn “Israel” is supplied in the translation for clarity.

[7:2]  10 tn Heb “stand” (so ASV, NAB, NASB, NRSV).

[7:2]  11 tn Heb “small.”

[14:23]  12 sn Appointed elders. See Acts 20:17.

[14:23]  13 tn The preposition κατά (kata) is used here in a distributive sense; see BDAG 512 s.v. κατά B.1.d.

[14:23]  14 tn Literally with a finite verb (προσευξάμενοι, proseuxamenoi) rather than a noun, “praying with fasting,” but the combination “prayer and fasting” is so familiar in English that it is preferable to use it here.

[14:23]  15 tn BDAG 772 s.v. παρατίθημι 3.b has “entrust someone to the care or protection of someone” for this phrase. The reference to persecution or suffering in the context (v. 22) suggests “protection” is a better translation here. This looks at God’s ultimate care for the church.
