  Lead us, O Father, in the paths of peace: Without Thy guiding hand we go astray, And doubts appall, and sorrows still increase; Lead us through Christ, the true and living Way. Lead us, O Father, in the paths of truth: Unhelped by Thee, in error’s name we grope, While passion stains, and folly dims our youth, And age comes on, uncheered by faith or hope. Lead us, O Father, in the paths of right: Blindly we stumble when we walk alone, Involved in shadows of a darksome night; Only with Thee we journey safely on. Lead us, O Father, to Thy heavenly rest, However rough and steep the path may be, Through joy or sorrow, as Thou deemest best, Until our lives are perfected in Thee.

  Leader of faithful souls, and Guide Of all who travel to the sky, Come, and with us, even us, abide, Who would on Thee alone rely; On Thee alone our spirits stay While held in life’s uneven sway. We’ve no abiding city here, But seek a city out of sight; Thither our steady course we steer, Aspiring to the plains of light, Jerusalem, the saints’ abode, Whose founder is the living God. Through Thee, who all our sins hast borne, Freely and graciously forgiven, With songs to Zion we return, Contending for our native heaven, That palace of our glorious King, We find it nearer while we sing. Raised by the breath of love divine, We urge our way with strength renewed, The Church of the first-born to join, We travel to the mount of God; With joy upon our heads arise, And meet our Captain in the skies.

  Fair waved the golden corn, In Canaan’s pleasant land, When full of joy, some shining morn, Went forth the reaper band. To God so good and great Their cheerful thanks they pour; Then carry to His temple gate The choicest of their store. Like Israel, Lord, we give Our earliest fruits to Thee, And pray that, long as we shall live, We may Thy children be. Thine is our youthful prime, And life and all its powers, Be with us in our morning time, And bless our evening hours. In wisdom let us grow, As years and strength are given, That we may serve Thy Church below, And join Thy saints in Heaven.

  Give of your best to the Master; Give of the strength of your youth. Throw your soul’s fresh, glowing ardor Into the battle for truth. Jesus has set the example, Dauntless was He, young and brave.   How blest the matron, who, endued With holy zeal and fortitude, Has won through grace a saintly fame, And owns a dear and honored name. Such holy love inflamed her breast She would not seek on earth her rest, But, strong in faith and patience, trod The narrow way that leads to God. She learned, through fasting, to control The flesh that weigheth down the soul, And then, by prayer’s sweet food sustained, To seek the joys she now has gained. O Christ, from Whom all virtue springs, Who only doest wondrous things, To Thee, the King of saints, we pray, Accept and bless Thy flock today. All praise to God the Father be, All praise, eternal Son, to Thee, Whom with the Spirit we adore For ever and for evermore.

  Happy the man that finds the grace, The blessing of God’s chosen race, The wisdom coming from above, The faith that sweetly works by love. Happy beyond description he Who knows: The Savior died for me; The gift unspeakable obtains, And heavenly understanding gains. Wisdom divine! Who tells the price Of wisdom’s costly merchandise; Wisdom to silver we prefer, And gold is dross compared to her. Her hands are filled with length of days, True riches, and immortal praise, Riches of Christ, on all bestowed, And honor that descends from God. To purest joys she all invites, Chaste, holy, spiritual delights; Her ways are ways of pleasantness, And all her flowery paths are peace. Happy the man who wisdom gains, Thrice happy who his Guest retains! He owns, and shall for ever own, Wisdom, and Christ, and Heaven are one.

  O happy is the man who hears Instruction’s warning voice; And who celestial Wisdom makes His early, only choice. For she has treasures greater far Than east or west unfold; And her rewards more precious are Than all their stores of gold. In her right hand she holds to view A length of happy days; Riches with splendid honors joined Are what her left displays. She guides the young with innocence, In pleasure’s paths to tread, A crown of glory she bestows Upon the hoary head.   Jesu, the world’s redeeming Lord, The Father’s co-eternal Word, Of light invisible true Light, Thine Israel’s Keeper day and night. Our great Creator and our Guide, Who times and seasons dost divide, Refresh at night with quiet rest, Our limbs by daily toil oppressed.   Though lowly here our lot may be, High work have we to do, In faith and trust to follow Him Whose lot was lowly, too. Our lives, enriched with gentle thoughts And loving deeds, may be A stream that still the nobler grows, The nearer to the sea. To duty firm, to conscience true, However tried and pressed, In God’s clear sight high work we do, If we but do our best. Thus may we make the lowliest lot With rays of glory bright; Thus may we turn a crown of thorns Into a crown of light.
