But he 2  listened to me this time as well.

[9:19]  1 tn Heb “the anger and the wrath.” Although many English versions translate as two terms, this construction is a hendiadys which serves to intensify the emotion (cf. NAB, TEV “fierce anger”).

[9:19]  2 tn Heb “the Lord.” See note on “he” in 9:3.

[7:6]  3 sn Tearing one’s clothes was an outward expression of extreme sorrow (see Gen 37:34; 44:13).

[7:6]  4 tn Or “elders.”

[7:6]  5 tn Heb “and fell on his face to the ground before the ark of the Lord until evening, he and the elders of Israel.”

[7:6]  6 sn Throwing dirt on one’s head was an outward expression of extreme sorrow (see Lam 2:10; Ezek 27:30).

[7:7]  7 tn Heb “said.”

[7:8]  8 tn Heb “turned [the] back.”

[7:9]  9 tn Heb “and cut off our name.”

[7:1]  11 tn Heb “But the sons of Israel were unfaithful with unfaithfulness concerning what was set apart [to the Lord].”

[7:1]  12 tn 1 Chr 2:6 lists a “Zimri” (but no Zabdi) as one of the five sons of Zerah (cf. also 1 Chr 7:17, 18).

[7:1]  13 tn Heb “took from what was set apart [to the Lord].”

[7:1]  14 tn Heb “the anger of the Lord burned against the sons of Israel.”

[7:1]  sn This incident illustrates well the principle of corporate solidarity and corporate guilt. The sin of one man brought the Lord’s anger down upon the entire nation.

[21:17]  15 tn The words “they assigned” are supplied for clarification (also in vv. 23, 25).

[106:23]  16 tn Heb “and he said.”

[106:23]  17 tn Heb “if not,” that is, “[and would have] if [Moses] had not.”

[106:23]  19 tn Heb “to turn back his anger from destroying.”

[106:23]  sn Verses 19-23 describe the events of Exod 32:1-35.

[119:120]  20 tn Heb “my flesh.”

[119:120]  21 tn The Hebrew verb סָמַר (samar, “to tremble”) occurs only here and in Job 4:15.

[119:120]  22 tn Heb “from fear of you.” The pronominal suffix on the noun is an objective genitive.
