Ezra 6:14

6:14 The elders of the Jews continued building and prospering, while at the same time ¹  Haggai the prophet and Zechariah the son of Iddo continued prophesying. They built and brought it to completion by the command of the God of Israel and by the command of Cyrus and Darius and Artaxerxes king of Persia.

Ezra 9:15

9:15 O Lord God of Israel, you are righteous, for we are left as a remnant this day. Indeed, we stand before you in our guilt. However, because of this guilt ²  no one can really stand before you.”

Ezra 6:10

6:10 so that they may be offering incense to the God of heaven and may be praying for the good fortune of the king and his family. ³ 

Ezra 1:3

1:3 Anyone from ⁴  his people among you (may his God be with him!) may go up to Jerusalem, which is in Judah, and may build the temple of the Lord God of Israel – he is the God who is in Jerusalem.

Ezra 7:6

7:6 This Ezra is the one who came up from Babylon. He was a scribe who was skilled in the law of Moses which the Lord God of Israel had given. The king supplied him with everything he requested, for the hand of the Lord his God was on him.

Ezra 5:17

5:17 “Now if the king is so inclined, ⁵  let a search be conducted in the royal archives ⁶  there in Babylon in order to determine whether King Cyrus did in fact issue orders for this temple of God to be rebuilt in Jerusalem. Then let the king send us a decision concerning this matter.”

Ezra 8:21-22

8:21 I called for a fast there by the Ahava Canal, so that we might humble ourselves before our God and seek from him a safe journey ⁷  for us, our children, and all our property. 8:22 I was embarrassed to request soldiers and horsemen from the king to protect us from the enemy ⁸  along the way, because we had said to the king, “The good hand of our God is on everyone who is seeking him, but his great anger ⁹  is against everyone who forsakes him.”

[9:15]  ² tn Heb “this”; the referent (the guilt mentioned previously) has been specified in the translation for clarity.

[6:10]  ³ tn Aram “for the life of the king and his sons.”

[1:3]  ⁴ tn Heb “from all.”

[5:17]  ⁵ tn Aram “if upon the king it is good.”

[5:17]  ⁶ tn Aram “the house of the treasures of the king.”

[8:21]  ⁷ tn Heb “a straight way.”

[8:22]  ⁸ tn A number of modern translations regard this as a collective singular and translate “from enemies” (also in v. 31).

[8:22]  ⁹ tn Heb “his strength and his anger.” The expression is a hendiadys (one concept expressed through two terms).
