46:6 Jacob and all his descendants took their livestock and the possessions they had acquired in the land of Canaan, and they went to Egypt. ¹

7:14 So Joseph sent a message ²  and invited ³  his father Jacob and all his relatives to come, seventy-five people ⁴  in all. 7:15 So Jacob went down to Egypt and died there, ⁵  along with our ancestors, ⁶ 

[46:6]  ¹ tn Heb “and they took their livestock and their possessions which they had acquired in the land of Canaan and they went to Egypt, Jacob and all his offspring with him.” The order of the clauses has been rearranged in the translation for stylistic reasons.

[7:14]  ² tn The words “a message” are not in the Greek text, but are implied.

[7:14]  ³ tn Or “Joseph had his father summoned” (BDAG 121 s.v. ἀποστέλλω 2.b).

[7:14]  ⁴ tn Grk “souls” (here an idiom for the whole person).

[7:15]  ⁵ tn The word “there” is not in the Greek text. Direct objects were often omitted in Greek when clear from the context, but must be supplied for the modern English reader.
