Kejadian 30:1
Konteks30:1 When Rachel saw that she could not give Jacob children, she 2 became jealous of her sister. She said to Jacob, “Give me children 3 or I’ll die!”
1 Samuel 4:19-21
Konteks4:19 His daughter-in-law, the wife of Phineas, was pregnant and close to giving birth. When she heard that the ark of God was captured and that her father-in-law and her husband were dead, she doubled over and gave birth. But her labor pains were too much for her. 4:20 As she was dying, the women who were there with her said, “Don’t be afraid! You have given birth to a son!” But she did not reply or pay any attention. 4
4:21 She named the boy Ichabod, 5 saying, “The glory has departed from Israel,” referring to the capture of the ark of God and the deaths of her father-in-law and her husband.

[30:24] 1 sn The name Joseph (יוֹסֵף, yoseph) means “may he add.” The name expresses Rachel’s desire to have an additional son. In Hebrew the name sounds like the verb (אָסַף,’asasf) translated “taken away” in the earlier statement made in v. 23. So the name, while reflecting Rachel’s hope, was also a reminder that God had removed her shame.
[30:1] 2 tn Heb “Rachel.” The proper name has been replaced by the pronoun (“she”) in the translation for stylistic reasons.
[4:20] 4 tn Heb “and she did not set her heart.”
[4:21] 5 sn The name Ichabod (אִי־כָבוֹד) may mean, “Where is the glory?”
