20:6 I grabbed hold of my concubine and carved her up and sent the pieces ¹  throughout the territory occupied by Israel, ²  because they committed such an unthinkable atrocity ³  in Israel.

Civil War Breaks Out

20:1 All the Israelites from Dan to Beer Sheba ⁴  and from the land of Gilead ⁵  left their homes ⁶  and assembled together ⁷  before the Lord at Mizpah.

1 Samuel 11:7

11:7 He took a pair ⁸  of oxen and cut them up. Then he sent the pieces throughout the territory of Israel by the hand of messengers, who said, “Whoever does not go out after Saul and after Samuel should expect this to be done to his oxen!” Then the terror of the Lord fell on the people, and they went out as one army. ⁹

[20:1]  ⁴ sn Dan was located in the far north of the country, while Beer Sheba was located in the far south. This encompassed all the territory of the land of Canaan occupied by the Israelites.
