[3:7]  1 tn Heb “in the eyes of the Lord.”

[3:7]  2 sn The Asherahs were local manifestations of the Canaanite goddess Asherah.

[3:9]  3 tn Heb “the Lord.”

[3:9]  4 tn Or “delivered.”

[3:9]  5 tn “Caleb’s younger brother” may refer to Othniel or to Kenaz (in which case Othniel is Caleb’s nephew).

[8:11]  6 tn Heb “the ones living in tents.”

[8:11]  7 tn Heb “and attacked the army, while the army was secure.” The Hebrew term בֶטַח (vetakh, “secure”) probably means the army was undefended (see R. G. Boling, Judges [AB], 156), not suspecting an attack at that time and place.

[19:20]  8 tn Heb “Peace to you.”
